TO RESIST OR TO DISAPPEAR
a manifesto

We know today that forces of destruction threaten us all and with us, the earth and all its living things. These forces are immeasurable, out of control but it is we humans who are responsible for unleashing them. Greed, violence and ignorance, whether willful or not, are the source of this evil.

Like millions of women, men and children across the globe, we refuse to be trapped by fear, denial or cynicism. We cannot accept to make annihilation our daily bread. Each of us was given the Earth as our inheritance and for the better or for the worse we all take the voyage together. We refuse to be complicit in the horror of our present time. We have chosen to resist all that attempts to intimidate us, to mutilate us and to destroy us.

But where can we find the strength to resist the dark powers that have orphaned so many human hearts. Is it asking the impossible? To this, we respond that we shall take the risk to stake everything on this impossible wager. We seek to redeem a future where the earth shall be remade with its living creatures and reconciled amongst its peoples.

If the evil is found within us, then the remedy to devastation and despair can only be found within us. The recognition our own weakness shall open the way to breathe again, toward the wholeness of life with all of its healing powers.

The hunger for gain, the thirst for domination, and the violent urge to humble or destroy those we take to be our enemies can never calm the anxiety that each of has before the precarious nature of our existence. The earth's rich soil came before us and it will remain after we have gone. Whether it pleases us or not, the power that has brought us into the world and which will take us from it, doesn't care about our bluster and our pretensions. Enough is enough with our conceits.

To counter the forces of mass destruction, we have love. Love which we know is able to emerge out of the mutual recognition of our common and fundamental anguish. It is only by accepting without reservation and with humility a vow recognizing our own fragility that we shall open ourselves to life, to humanity and to the infinitude which breathes within us all.

A single word from me to you, from you to me, and the universe will again beat in our veins. We aspire to no greater poem than the work of healing and the creation of an earthly home where the dignity and intrinsic beauty of each of us has its due. This is why we pledge ourselves to adhere to this precept:

« You shall not humiliate anyone »

In this way you shall reach your destination : by acts of random tenderness: by embracing all that you never thought yourselves to be, by abandoning yourself to everything that you are not. Do not hide the sun from the sun. Your sole debt is toward the light. All it ever wanted from you was that you become one with it. You shall be the memory of the future, if your present does not erase a future for memory.
